Treasurer's Office - Driver's License

The Hardin County Treasurer’s Office is responsible for issuing driver’s licenses to Iowa residents. This also includes motorcycle licenses, Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) and driver permits for Iowa residents 14 years of age and up.

Driver's License Expiration

A driver’s license expires on the license holder’s birthday. However, the license is still valid for an additional 60 days. CDLs now expire on the expiration date with no 60-day grace period.

Expiration Grace Period & Travel

Please note, when using a driver’s license as a form of identification for travel purposes the 60 days grace period may not be recognized by travel security personnel.

Expirations Exceeding 1 Year

If the driver’s license remains expired for a period of one year the license holder will be required to take the written knowledge test, the drive test and vision screening test.

Written Test Hours

Written tests for a driver's license are available every week day from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. by appointment only. No tests will be allowed to begin after 3:30 p.m.
