Military Exemption

Reduces the taxable value of property for military veterans. The amount of exemption varies. Veteran must own the property on July 1st of the claiming year.

A qualified veteran must file a claim with the local Assessor by July 1st. Veterans who served in active duty, and who were honorably discharged, are eligible to receive a military exemption on their property taxes. If you served in active duty for 18 months, you may be eligible. Subsequent claims need not be filed for the same property.

You must come into the Assessor's Office to apply for this credit. Any questions can be directed to the Assessor's Office at 641-939-8100.
